The Day the Music Died

Today, February 3, is the anniversary of the day that well-known musicians Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper were killed in a plane crash along with their pilot Roger Peterson.
Much of Buddy Holly's music was not distributed to the public until after his death.
Ritchie Valens was only 17 when he died but is still well known for the song "La Bamba".
Jiles Perry Richardson, Jr. (known as the Big Bopper) was a singer and a song writer. His songs became hits for himself and for others.
The song American Pie, written in 1971 was a tribute to the deaths of these individuals as well as a social commentary on the time period although the writer of the song (Don McLean) will not admit to any particular interpretation of the lyrics.

So today, ask your parents and grandparents about these singers and see if they remember anything about the day the music died.
